Competitive wine and beer tasting pairing bao buns from Little Bao Boy with beer from Kirkstall Brewery and wine from the Yorkshire Wine School.
Battle of the Bao: Grape vs Grain lands at The City Tap Room on Monday 7 December, starting at 7:00pm. It's the latest in the Local Wine School's 'Grape Off' series, which takes their usual tasting format and turns it into a bit of a competitive sport between the tutor and her wine pals. This time they're bringing other members of the LWS network into Leeds to do battle, and they're billing it as 'the tastiest battle in town'.
The setup is simple: hand-pulled bao buns from the Little Bao Boy team, beer drawn straight from the brewery tap, and wine selected by the Yorkshire Wine School team. Each ticket gets you three bao buns, each paired with both a beer and a wine, and it's up to you to decide which pairing wins. It's a head-to-head on the plate, with the beer and the wine fighting for the same bite.
The night is a collaboration between Kirkstall Brewery, Yorkshire Wine School and Little Bao Boy. The venue, Kirkstall's City Tap Room, sits just behind the train station at 3 Sovereign Square, Sovereign St LS1 4BA. It's part of the school's wider range of introductory tastings, which pair wine with cheese, charcuterie, crisps and chocolate, and sits alongside their more in-depth 'Wonderful World of Wine' course. The school describes itself as part of the Local Wine School Network, the world's fastest-growing network of independent wine schools.
