Live jazz gig by sax and guitar quintet Another Workout at The Domino Club in the Grand Arcade, for ages 18 and over.
Another Workout are playing The Domino Club on Sunday 25 October, with the night presented by the club itself. It's a sax and guitar-led quintet, and the sound they're building comes from a love for the golden era of recorded jazz — they describe themselves as a band that builds its sound by digging through the Blue Note records back catalogue. If you're familiar with that label, you'll know the territory: hard bop and soul jazz from the fifties and sixties, the kind of music that sits comfortably between a dancefloor and a listening room.
That Blue Note influence is the whole point here. Rather than playing a set of standards, they're working from the records they've spent time with, so the night should feel like a nod to the jazz that defined the era. It's a quintet, which gives them enough room to let the sax and guitar lead without losing the swing of the rhythm section behind them.
