Three-hour upcycling workshop to embellish a cap with badges, studs, lace, fabric scraps, paint and a glue gun.
ALL CAPS is running an upcycling workshop at Chapel Allerton Arts Centre on Thursday 19 November, and it's one of those sessions where you actually leave with something you'll wear. The whole thing is open to all ages, so it works just as well if you're bringing the kids along as it does if you're heading in on your own.
The premise is straightforward: you pick a cap and spend the session embellishing it. The table is laid out with a proper range of bits and bobs to work with. There's a badge maker for making your own pins, spikes, studs, and grommets for that heavier, hardware look, alongside lace, fabric scraps, and embroidery threads if you're leaning more towards something softer. You'll also have paint, bleach, and a glue gun on hand, so you can strip things back or build them up as you go. The beauty of it is that you're not following a set pattern — you just keep adding until it looks the way you want.

It's a three-hour session, which is plenty of time to get a few different ideas onto one cap without having to rush. If you've never done much crafting before, it's a good place to start because most of the tools are pretty intuitive, and you're working with a single object rather than a huge project. The session runs from 6pm to 9pm, with doors opening at 5:45pm, so you've got a few minutes to get settled before things kick off. You'll find it at Chapel Allerton Arts Centre, 31 Potternewton Lane, Leeds LS7 3LW, in West Yorkshire.
