Halloween night UV walk through the woods of Adel Dam nature reserve to see the forest floor's glowing fungi, run by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are running an After Dark UV Fungi Walk at Adel Dam Nature Reserve on Saturday 31 October, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. It's Halloween night, and the whole point is to see the woods in a way you normally can't: with ultraviolet lights in hand, the forest floor comes alive with glowing fungi that stay invisible during the day. The walk is run by the Trust, the only charity entirely dedicated to conserving, protecting and enhancing Yorkshire's wildlife and wild places.
The route takes around two hours to complete, and it's fully booked, so you'll need to get your tickets in advance. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and dogs aren't permitted on this one. If you're coming with a wheelchair or a pushchair, the path to Marsh Hide is suitable, but the rest of the route is more uneven, with narrow passages and frequent boggy areas to navigate. It's worth keeping that in mind before you set off.

One practical thing to note: there are no toilet or catering facilities on the reserve itself, as the neighbouring Golden Acre Park toilets and café are closed in the evening. You'll want to sort yourself out before you arrive. The meeting point is the main Golden Acre car park, and from there you'll head into the woods of Adel Dam Nature Reserve on Otley Road, Leeds LS16 8AG. Tickets are £18 for adults and £12 for children under 17, with booking fees on top.
