Free vinyl night of psychedelic dance music from Ben Lewis and Marie Avril at The 212 Café & Bar.
Acid Test returns to The 212 Café & Bar on Friday 23 October, with Marie Avril and Ben Lewis taking the decks. It's a vinyl-only night, so you'll be hearing records played straight from the wax rather than a laptop.
The two DJs share the billing, and the night is billed as 'all vinyl psychedelic goodness'. That's the core of it: a focus on the psychedelic side of dance music, played from vinyl. It's not a single-genre affair, and that's where the two sets diverge and overlap. Marie Avril and Ben Lewis both work across a wide range of styles, and their sets are described as a genre-spanning navigation around the edges of dance music. Rather than sticking to one sound, they'll be moving through different territories throughout the night, pulling from the fringes of the dance floor.
Because it's a vinyl night, the selection is limited to what's on the records they bring, which gives the whole thing a different feel from a digital set. The 'psychedelic' tag points the way, but the 'edges of dance music' part suggests they'll be venturing into the more experimental or less obvious corners of the club. If you're into the more atmospheric, far-reaching side of electronic music, that's where this sits.
