Leeds is marking four centuries since it was granted its city charter, and one of the ways it's doing that is with a big international cultural programme. If you want something on the calendar this weekend, the event to look at is 'Leeds International Cultural Asso: Celebrates 400 Years of Leeds History', put on by the Leeds International Cultural Association (LICA). It runs this Saturday, 24 October, from 12:00 to 16:00.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Leeds and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

The best part for many people will be that it's free. You just need to grab a free ticket on Eventbrite before you go. The afternoon is built around a cultural showcase, with traditional costumes, music and dance from different parts of the world. It's a relaxed way to see the range of communities that make up the city today. The event takes place at the Events North auditorium on Kirkstall Road, LS3 1JT. The Eventbrite listing also gives 31 Burley Road as a location, so it's worth checking the page for the right address before you head out. The venue has car parking, toilets, baby changing facilities, a changing places toilet and wheelchair access.
The wider 400th anniversary programme goes beyond this one event and includes historical re-enactments and contemporary arts. The Welcome to Leeds 2026 guide is a good place to start if you want to see what else is happening across the city this year, and the site also lists the anniversary events it covers. Whatever you choose, it's a chance to celebrate the city's long history with a bit of company, and the Saturday event is a simple one to fit into an afternoon.
