Veronica Roth, The Sixth Faction

Veronica Roth is coming to Unity Temple on the Plaza on Tuesday, October 13, to talk about her new book, The Sixth Faction. The evening is presented by Rainy Day Books, and it's built around Roth reading from the new title and then sitting down for a conversation. The Sixth Faction is billed as a new Divergent series, so if you spent any time with those books back in the day, this is the one to keep an eye on.

Roth is best known as the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Divergent series, which became a major motion picture franchise. Since then, she's put out When Among Crows, Seek the Traitor's Son, Poster Girl, Chosen Ones, and the Carve the Mark duology. She lives in Chicago, so this is a stop on the tour for the new release.

The conversation is moderated by Adib Khorram, a queer Iranian author who grew up right here in Kansas City. He wrote the YA novel Darius the Great Is Not Okay, which picked up the William C. Morris Debut Award, the Asian/Pacific American Award for Young Adult Literature, and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor, and was named one of Time magazine's 100 Best YA Novels of All Time. Having a local writer lead the discussion gives the whole thing a bit of a homecoming feel.

There are a few specific things to know before you go. Each ticket includes a signed copy of the book, and the version they're handing out is a deluxe limited edition with an exclusive cover, designed edges, and a foiled case. Additional signed backstock will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but there's no personalization or photo line. The event runs from 7 PM to 8:30 PM in the Sanctuary at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 West 47th Street, with doors opening at 6 PM.
