A hands-on STEAM program for tweens at the KCDML Makerspace, with a new focus each week.
Tween Tech Club is back at the Southeast Branch Library on Tuesday, October 20, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. It's a hands-on STEAM program for tweens, run out of the KCDML Makerspace, and the format is pretty straightforward: each week centers on a different area of focus, so the project changes every time you go. One week might be music, the next art, and from there it can swing into crafts, 3D printing, and whatever else the makerspace can throw at it.
The program runs inside the KC Digital Media Lab, which is housed in the Goppert Media Center. That's part of the larger Southeast Branch, located at 6242 Swope Parkway in Kansas City, MO 64130. The branch itself sits across from Swope Park and the Kansas City Zoo, and it's known for some particularly strong collections in African-American literature, urban fiction, urban Christian fiction, children's folklore and animals, and jazz, blues and gospel music on CD.

There's a bit of history to the place, too. The collection originally lived at Southeast High School before the staff operated out of a kiosk in the Landing Mall. A 2018 renovation brought in new meeting rooms, a children's area, and the Goppert Media Center that holds the digital lab. If you're coming for the club, you'll be in the Makerspace part of that lab, where the hands-on work actually happens. It runs from 4:30 to 5:30 PM on Tuesday, October 20.
