Concert by the Seattle-based instrumental funk and soul group True Loves at the Knuckleheads venue.
True Loves play Knuckleheads on Thursday, October 15, at 7:30 PM. They're a Seattle-based instrumental funk and soul group, and this is an all-instrumental set, so there's no one singing over the top—just the band playing. Tickets are $25.95.
The group started back in 2014 as a jam session between drummer David McGraw, bassist Bryant Moore, and guitarist Jimmy James. Since then it's grown into a full ensemble: percussionist Iván Galvez, trombonist Greg Kramer, and saxophonists Gordon Brown and Skerik. That's a heavy horn section—trombone and two saxes—which is where a lot of the funk and soul sound comes from. They've put out two instrumental albums so far, Famous Last Words in 2017 and Sunday Afternoon in 2021.
More recently, they released the 2024 single "Good Weed and Red Wine," which featured keyboardist Nigel Hall of Lettuce, and put out "Dopus no. 1" as a B-side on a vinyl 7-inch. They spent the fall of 2025 back in Europe and have since been supporting Ghost Note on their return to the US. Right now they're working on their next album, with more US and European tours planned around it.
