A thematic trivia night on J.R.R. Tolkien with Shire-inspired refreshments and an optional costume contest, hosted in partnership with the Tolkien Society of Kansas City.
Trivia Night: Tolkien Edition lands at the National WWI Museum and Memorial on Friday, October 16, a night dedicated to the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The museum is hosting it in partnership with the Tolkien Society of Kansas City, and the whole thing is held in the R.A. Long Learning Center at 2 Memorial Drive.
There's a reason this is happening at a war museum. Tolkien wasn't just the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings; he was a First World War veteran. He fought at the Battle of Thiepval Ridge during the Battle of the Somme in 1916, and the evening leans on that history as much as it does on the writer's fiction. The trivia will pull from both his time in the trenches and the worlds he built afterward.
You can show up on your own or put together a team of up to five people. The night also includes Shire-inspired refreshments and an optional costume contest with prizes, so if you've got a cloak or a pair of prosthetic hobbit feet, this is your chance to bring them out. There's a cash bar available throughout the evening, and you'll need your ID to use it.

Doors open at 6 PM, and the trivia kicks off at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $25 per person, or $15 for museum members, and your entry includes two complimentary drinks and food. It's a Friday night in Kansas City, so if you're into Tolkien, this is a good one to get on your calendar.
