Bluegrass band Trampled By Turtles performs with support from Wild Horses at The Truman, with $1 from each ticket going to BACKLINE.
Trampled By Turtles play The Truman on Thursday, October 22, with Wild Horses opening. It's an all-ages show, so you can bring the kids along if you're not planning on a late night.
For those who haven't kept up with them, the band started in Duluth, Minnesota, as a side project for frontman Dave Simonett. He put it together in 2003 after thieves ransacked his car and left him with nothing but an acoustic guitar. He recruited a string of newcomers — fiddler Ryan Young, bassist Tim Saxhaug, mandolinist Erik Berry, and banjo player Dave Carroll — and built a fast, frenetic sound that owes as much to rock & roll as to bluegrass.
Their first record, Songs from a Ghost Town, came out in 2004, and by 2008's Duluth the bluegrass community had taken notice. Palomino (2010) debuted at the top of the bluegrass chart, and Stars and Satellites (2012) reached number 32 on the Billboard 200, which landed them slots at festivals like Coachella, ACL Fest, and Lollapalooza. Their most recent album, Alpenglow (2022), was produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy.
