Solo exhibition by Ellie Naege that turns the gallery into a mystical ceramic forest with porcelain mushrooms and a giant blue branch shaped like a moon.
Ellie Naege has a solo exhibition running at The Waiting Room through November 13, titled The Forest Whispers to Me. It's a ceramic installation that turns the gallery into a mystical forest, and it's on view now at 1106 Santa Fe St. in the basement.
Naege built the show around a specific story: a little explorer who stumbles into a fairy ring and gets transported into a ceramic forest. From there, she transforms the gallery space into an experience you walk through rather than just look at. Ceramic mushrooms hang from a giant blue branch shaped like a moon, and the walls are lined with small porcelain sculptures where white mushrooms and other features sprout from blue rings. It's the kind of show that works as much on the details as it does on the whole room.

Naege is a Kansas City Art Institute alum and a current Charlotte Street Foundation resident artist, so this is a local project coming from someone who's still working and living in the city. The exhibition runs through November 13 at The Waiting Room, 1106 Santa Fe St. (basement), Kansas City, MO 64101.
