SHIFT play Hillsiders on Sunday, October 11, at 8 PM. They're an experimental rock trio, and they've been playing around the city regularly since they made Kansas City their home.
If you're not familiar with them, they blend progressive rock, synthpop, and jazz into a sound they describe as a world of its own. The lyrics lean into the heavier side of things—fears, doubts, and the woes of the modern world—but they balance that by celebrating the beauty of the universe. It's a wide range to cover in one set, and the mix of prog, synth, and jazz gives them a lot of ground to work with.
They've been around since 2020, when they formed in Springfield, Missouri. Since then, they've called Oklahoma City, Phoenix, and Kansas City home, and as of 2026, they're based here in Kansas City, Missouri, where they've become a regular part of the local scene. To date, they've put out two full-length albums, Timelines and Jagged and Bold.
