After-hours historical tours of the John Wornall House Museum featuring vignettes of historical information and dramatic reenactments.
Shadows of the Past comes to the John Wornall House Museum on Saturday, October 17, for an after-hours tour of the historic home. It's a night tour that moves through the house in vignettes of historical information and dramatic reenactments, walking you through the rooms where stories of hardship, resilience, and transformation unfolded. The museum describes it as distinctly spooky but never supernatural, focusing on the unsettling truths and real experiences that shaped the Wornall family, their neighbors, and the house itself.
The house itself is one of Kansas City's last remaining antebellum homes, built in 1858. It stood through the turbulence of the Civil War, the hardships of frontier life, and the changing realities of the Victorian era. The Wornall/Majors House Museums use that history to foster a more accurate understanding of the region's shared past, and this tour lets you see that history play out in the rooms where it actually happened.
If you can't make the Saturday night, the museum is open 10 AM to 4 PM Wednesday through Saturday and 1 PM to 4 PM on Sunday. The nearby Alexander Majors House Museum is open 1 PM to 5 PM Friday and Saturday, and by appointment. The surrounding Brookside neighborhood is a historic area built in the 1920s.
