A magic show featuring urban legends and mind tricks by Carey & Kuhlman at the Lifted Spirits Distillery in the Crossroads Arts District.
Carey & Kuhlman return to the Crossroads on Friday, October 23, with Razor Blades, Rituals & Rumors: A Most Unusual Hour of Magic. Bryce Kuhlman and C. K. Carey are back in the neighborhood after their Gen-X fever dream of a run at the KC Fringe Festival, and this time they're bringing a sharp hour of vintage urban legends and psychological trickery. The timing is a bit of a wink: the show falls almost exactly a century after Harry Houdini took his final Halloween breath.
The venue is Lifted Spirits Distillery, at 1734 Cherry Street in the Crossroads Arts District. The distillery started as a hobby, making special batches for birthdays and family celebrations, and it still pours that same intention into every bottle of gin, vodka, absinthe and whiskey it produces. The tasting room has a family-dinner, game-night vibe, and the second floor houses The Hayloft—the building's original horse-feed and bedding loft from the Smith Brothers Steam Bakery, restored with its original doors and beams intact and now seating up to 175 people. The Crossroads itself is a neighborhood where once-vacant warehouses now house curated galleries alongside restaurants, breweries and speakeasies.
