A book group run by the Kansas City Public Library that highlights a different book by a queer author or about queer themes each month.
Queer Voices meets at the Plaza Branch on Thursday, October 15, from 6 to 7 PM. It's a book group run by the Kansas City Public Library that highlights a different book by a queer author or one dealing with queer themes every month. The sessions are for adults and require an RSVP.
If you haven't spent much time there, the Plaza Branch is the busiest in the whole library system. The original opened in 1967 at Brookside Boulevard and Main Street, and it was the first branch the city's board of education built outside a high school facility. The current building overlooks Country Club Plaza and features the Good As Gold sculpture, which is made of books.
Downstairs is the Truman Forum Auditorium, with fixed seating for more than 200. It regularly hosts the library's award-winning signature events series, which brings in locally and nationally known authors, artists, and civic leaders for presentations. The book group is a different kind of gathering—a monthly conversation around a single title—but it's part of that same commitment to keeping the city's literary life active.
