Three hours of free live steel pan led fusion music blending jazz, blues, and global styles by the Legerdemain quartet.
Legerdemain is leading an open jam at American Royal Hall on Saturday, October 17, from 12 PM to 3 PM. It's three hours of live fusion music led by steel pan, blending jazz, blues, and global styles. The jam is part of the Rock Island Bridge entertainment district's free event series, on a stretch of the city newly opened over the Kansas River.
Legerdemain is a Kansas City fusion group with deep jazz roots and original music that draws from styles all over the world. The core quartet features Marcus Rattler on drums and amplified steel pan, Daniel Yung on cello and keys, Zach Arias on guitar, and Andrew Voggessor on bass. Earlier this year, the band reached the quarterfinals at the 2026 International Blues Challenge.
The jam also ties into 816 Day, Kansas City's official area-code holiday. Promoter Brian "Bizzy" Benton started the day in 2017 after noticing hip-hop artists nationwide celebrating their area codes and wanting the city to do the same. Since then, 816 Day has grown into a round of neighborhood block parties, outdoor concerts, and free festivals across the metro.
