Guitarist Tetsuya Nishiyama's trio performs a live jam session at the American Jazz Museum's historic venue.
Tetsuya Nishiyama leads a night jam session at The Blue Room on Monday, October 12, starting at 7 PM. It's his trio on the bill, and they're coming off a big win: Outstanding Jazz at the 2026 Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards.
If you're not familiar with the room, The Blue Room is the American Jazz Museum's working jazz club, a living exhibit in the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. It takes its name from the famous 1930s Street Hotel lounge, which was a stop in the Negro Motorist Green Book and where Jackie Robinson once lived. The district itself is recognized internationally as a cradle of jazz, with Charlie Parker as its most notable musician, so there's a fair bit of history in the walls here.
As a jam session, the night is built around the act of playing together rather than a setlist of rehearsed songs. Nishiyama's trio will be the main feature, and the format leaves plenty of room for the music to go wherever it wants to go. It's a good way to hear a working group in a setting that's more about the moment than a fixed program.
