First all-Asian fiber arts invitational in Kansas City by the pan-Asian artist collective Third Pine Collective, staged as a 'share house'.
Murmurating Threads is on view at Vulpes Bastille through October 23, and it's a big one for the city's arts scene. It's the first all-Asian fiber invitational in Kansas City, and the largest project the Third Pine Collective has put together since it formed. The collective is the city's first pan-Asian artist collective, and this show brings together 12 pan-Asian artists from across the Midwest and beyond, all working in or with fiber.
Two people co-curated the exhibition: Xiao Faria daCunha, a multidisciplinary artist and writer based here in Kansas City, and Hùng Lê, a fiber artist based in St. Louis. Together they've gathered work that looks at how fiber can carry memories, reflect lived experiences, and build new identities across Asian diasporas. It's a lot to hold in one room, and the way they've laid it out helps. The gallery is staged like a share house, with a living room, a sitting room of personal memories, a study, a community room, and a master bedroom area. There's also a community loom for co-creation, so it's not just something to look at—you can actually get involved.
While you're there, you'll find another show tucked inside. The gallery's subgallery space houses Blue House, a solo exhibition by KCAI alumna Leslie McGuire.
