Free outdoor chamber music concert performed by musicians from the Kansas City Symphony at Kessler Park.
The Kansas City Symphony is bringing a Mobile Music Box concert to Kessler Park on Tuesday, October 20. It's a free outdoor performance, and the musicians are coming from the symphony itself, so you're getting the city's main orchestra playing in the neighborhood rather than in a concert hall.
The setup is simple: the musicians set up by the reservoir at Gate 2 of Cliff Drive in Pendleton Heights, and the music goes out to whoever happens to be around. It's chamber music, which means a smaller group than the full symphony, played open-air. If you've never been to a Mobile Music Box show, that's exactly what it is—the symphony taking a few players out of the hall and into the park for an hour of music by the water.
Since it's in Pendleton Heights, it's a good excuse to spend a Tuesday evening in the neighborhood. The reservoir is right there, and the music is free, so you can just show up and listen without needing a ticket or a reservation. It's one of those things that works best when you just bring a chair or a blanket and settle in.
