Indie rock night featuring performances by Microwave and Free Throw at The Truman venue.
Microwave and Free Throw play The Truman on Wednesday, October 14, with Carly Cosgrove and Flycatcher opening. It's a double bill of two bands that have spent years in the same orbit, and Free Throw takes the spotlight for the night.
Free Throw is fronted by singer Cory Castro, and by the time they hit the stage, they'll have been together nearly seven years. They've put out two studio albums, and their third full-length, What's Past is Prologue, came out March 29, 2019, on Triple Crown Records. It's their most forthcoming record to date: twelve tracks that follow Castro's struggles with mental health, split into two parts. The band describes it as their first Free Throw record with a happy ending. Castro sings alongside Lawrence Warner, Justin Castro, Jake Hughes, and Kevin Garcia.

The Truman itself is a 1930s building reborn as a music venue and event space, keeping the concrete and steel look of the original. Inside, there's a large main hall, a separate bar and lounge at the main entrance, an open-air patio, and a second-story VIP area that looks over the stage with views of downtown Kansas City. It's a cashless venue, and parking is limited, so keep that in mind when you're planning your night. The show starts at 7 PM at 601 E Truman Rd, Kansas City, MO 64106.
