Michael Franti Trio live in concert with special guest Wheeland Brothers, performing songs from the Heartstrings & Dynamite tour.
Michael Franti Trio play Warehouse on Broadway on Friday, October 16, as part of the Heartstrings & Dynamite tour. They're bringing along the Wheeland Brothers, who open with an acoustic set.
If you're not familiar with the name, Franti is an Oakland singer-songwriter and poet who's spent decades blending R&B, hip-hop, soul, folk, rock, and reggae. He started out with Beatnigs and the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy before forming Spearhead, and he's built a career around high-energy live shows and philanthropic work. Over the years he's put out three Billboard No. 1 hits — "Sound of Sunshine," "Say Hey (I Love You)," and "I Got You" — along with six Top 30 Hot AC singles, 10 Top 25 AAA singles, and three Billboard Top 5 Rock Albums. His 13th studio album, Big Big Love, came out in November 2023 and debuted in the Top 5 of the iTunes Pop Chart.
Beyond the music, there's a fair amount of life behind the records. Franti is a recognized activist and award-winning filmmaker, and these days he lives in Bali. He owns Soulshine Bali, a 32-room boutique hotel in Ubud, and runs the wish-granting non-profit Do It For The Love, which has fulfilled over 3,500 wishes and touched more than 15,000 lives. That side of things — the activism and the community work — has always run alongside the songwriting.
