Concert by Nashville-based Americana artist Madeleine Kelson at the historic Greenwood Social Hall.
Madeleine Kelson plays Greenwood Social Hall on Sunday, October 11, at 7 PM. She's a Nashville-based Americana artist who works in folk and country, and she describes herself as a queer artist pushing the boundaries of those genres. If you're not familiar with her, it helps to know where she comes from: she spent her high school years in Chicago playing in The Kelson Twins, landed a Daytrotter Session with Paste Magazine, and later moved to Music City to go solo, citing Patty Griffin, Jason Isbell, and Brandi Carlile as influences.
There's a fair bit of ground she's covered since then. She won the 2017 International Bluegrass Music Association's Songwriter Showcase and put out the solo EP Siren in 2018, which drew comparisons to Amos Lee and Gillian Welch. In 2022, she released the self-produced album While I Was Away on Olivia Records, became a finalist in the Kerrville New Folk songwriting competition, and saw her queer country anthem "The Way I Do" go viral on TikTok with over 3 million views. Her latest EP, Where the Spirit Meets the Muscle, came out in February 2024.
