A vibrant Saturday market featuring local Hispanic vendors, makers, and small businesses above the Kansas River, offering community shopping and entertainment.
La Placita Market is back at the Rock Island Bridge in Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday, October 10. It's a Saturday market that brings together local Hispanic vendors, makers, and small businesses right above the Kansas River.
What makes it more than just a place to shop is how it works. La Placita is the grassroots business incubator run by the Central Area Betterment Association (CABA), and it's designed to pair income generation with community time. Each session, the market sponsors up to 10 micro start-ups, covering their permits, insurance, food handlers training, tents, music, and entertainment. It's a low-barrier way for new vendors to get their foot in the door and start selling without having to figure out the logistics on their own.
The market has a bit of a history behind it. It started in 2014 after a 2013 survey by KU School of Architecture students rated Bethany Park as the least liked place in Kansas City. CABA launched the grassroots market to rescue and rebrand the space, and over the last 12 years it's grown into a weekly fixture. These days it's run by CABA in partnership with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County's Parks and Recreation Department.

Admission is free, and it runs from 8 AM to 1 PM. If you're looking for a Saturday morning that's as much about the people behind the stalls as it is about what they're selling, this is a good one to have on your radar.
