A writing workshop for adults at the Kansas City Public Library's Southeast Branch, focusing on journaling techniques and creative nonfiction.
Journaling Journey comes to the Southeast Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, November 7, at 2 PM. It's a writing workshop for adults, and it's part of the library's Writers for Readers series.
If you've ever wanted to keep a journal but found the idea daunting, this is for you. The session is aimed at people who aren't sure where to start, feel like they don't have the time, or struggle to keep a routine. Over the course of the afternoon, you'll work through different journaling techniques, answer short prompts, and take part in free-write sessions. You don't need to come in with a practice already established—the whole point is to get you moving.
The workshop sits inside a larger series called Creative Nonfiction: Write a Richer Personal Story, which the Kansas City Public Library runs in partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City's MFA Program in Creative Writing. That broader series is about how to craft memorable personal essays, memoirs, and literary journalism using creative techniques that draw on memories, dreams, and anecdotes. The class is taught by a graduate student in the UMKC MFA Program, so you're learning from someone currently working through the craft.
