Live jazz set by the Josué Estrada Band, led by trumpeter Josué Estrada of Wichita, at the American Jazz Museum's working jazz club.
Josué Estrada Band plays The Blue Room on Saturday, October 17. Estrada is a first-generation Mexican American trumpeter from Wichita, and he writes some of his lyrics in Spanish. He first picked up the trumpet in sixth grade, after a saxophone reed failed to make a sound and his teacher suggested he try a trumpet mouthpiece instead. He played on Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy's 2018 album GNOSIS and started recording his own music in his bedroom during the pandemic. He formed his own band in 2022 and has since played Raleigh, Charlotte, and Somewhere Fest 2026 in downtown Wichita. On a bandstand he told KMUW, "I try to think as little as possible and feel as much as possible."
The Blue Room is the American Jazz Museum's working jazz club and a living exhibit in the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. It takes its name from the famous 1930s nightclub The Blue Room at the Street Hotel, which appeared in The Negro Motorist Green Book and served as the home of Jackie Robinson. The district is internationally recognized as a cradle of jazz, with Charlie Parker its most notable local figure. The club is located at 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108.
