Country music artist Jackson Dean performs live at The Truman in Kansas City.
Jackson Dean plays The Truman on Thursday, December 17, at 7 PM. He's a multi-instrumentalist from Odenton, Maryland, and the bill is just him.
His music reaches back to an old-school country sound, with lyrics that lean into the outlaw style while holding on to the somber, sentimental undertones of folk-influenced singer-songwriters. He's been described as an old soul and a deep thinker, and that comes through in the writing—hardened lines that don't quite let go of the softer, folkier side of things.
There's a bit of a story behind the sound. At 18, Dean left home to live in a one-room shack with no plumbing on his grandfather's property. He spent his time there wandering the woods, working leather, and doing wood-burning art. He first got national attention as a high school senior when a video of him singing the national anthem in his football uniform went viral. After opening for Kane Brown, Jake Owen, and Brothers Osborne, he signed with Big Machine Records in 2021. His 2022 single "Don't Come Lookin'" became the highest-charting debut from a new male artist on the Country Aircheck chart at the time.
