An art exhibition exploring the image of God through the works of artists from the Creative Community ministry, part of the Crossroads Arts District First Friday programme.
IKON: an image of God opens at Four Chapter Gallery on Friday, November 6, and runs through Saturday, February 13. It's a group show featuring artists from the Creative Community, the arts ministry at the Downtown Campus of Crossroads, and it stays up for a full three months.
The artists are working from a shared prompt: the people they've known, read about, loved, and observed. Each one uses their own medium to get at the singular mystery that makes a person who they are. The whole thing takes its name and its starting point from Genesis 1:27, which says that all men and women are created in the image of God. From there, the show sets out to create a contemplative space where you can behold the beauty of God refracted through human souls.
Because it's part of the Crossroads Arts District's First Friday program, there are three receptions to work around. The opening night on November 6 runs from 5:30 to 9 PM, with an artist panel and poetry readings starting at 6:30 PM. After that, there's a reception on December 4 and another on February 5, both from 5:30 to 9 PM. If you'd rather go on your own, the gallery is open every Saturday from 2 to 4 PM, except for December 5, December 26, and January 2. Between the First Friday receptions and the Saturday hours, you've got plenty of ways to see it over the course of the run.
