A free comedy night featuring improv, sketch and stand-up performances at The Bird Comedy Theater in the Crossroads Arts District.
The Bird Comedy Theater holds its Free First Friday comedy show on Friday, November 6, in the Crossroads Arts District. It's part of a monthly tradition: the theater hosts a free comedy night every first Friday of the month, so if you miss this one, there's another coming the following month.
There are two shows to choose from. An improv show kicks off at 7:30 PM, and the main comedy show follows at 9:30 PM. Between them, you've got a full evening of comedy if you want to stick around for both, or you can just pick the time that works for you. The lineup pulls from the three styles the theater does every week: improv, sketch, and stand-up.
The Bird is located at 103 W. 19th Street in the Crossroads Arts District, downtown Kansas City. It's a dedicated comedy space that bills itself as the city's best comedy theater, and it's got the awards to back that up. The Pitch and KC Magazine have voted it KC's Best Comedy Club every year since 2023. Since 2024, it's also picked up Best Theater Company and Best Open Mic in The Pitch's Best of KC.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Kansas City and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Inside, there's a full bar, soft drinks, and popcorn to keep you going through the sets. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated. The shows are recommended for ages 17 and over. If you're planning to go, just remember the two start times: improv at 7:30 PM and the comedy show at 9:30 PM.
