A fun, hour-long session for adults that alternates between a lesson and social time to practice Spanish and meet neighbours.
The Conversational Spanish Club meets at the Irene H. Ruiz Branch on Tuesday, October 13, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. It's an hour-long session for adults that alternates between a lesson and social time, so you get a bit of instruction and then a chance to actually use it while getting to know the other people in the room. The facilitator matches the topics to the group's interests, and there are no quizzes, which keeps things low-pressure.
The meeting is in the library's meeting room at the Irene H. Ruiz Biblioteca de las Americas, 2017 West Pennway Street. The branch itself has a long history: it started in 1911 as the Switzer Branch, a joint effort between the public school and the public library. It became the West Branch in 1926 and moved several times before opening at its current location on September 15, 2001, when it was renamed in honor of former librarian Irene Ruiz. It's a good spot for this kind of thing, tooโthe branch carries a wide array of Spanish-language materials and unique resources on Latin American culture, and it's staffed by bilingual personnel.
