A Candlelight concert reimagining Hans Zimmer's iconic film scores performed by the Fountain City Quartet in a historic temple lit by thousands of candles.
Candlelight brings a tribute to Hans Zimmer to The Sanctuary - Unity Temple on the Plaza on Saturday, October 17, with the Fountain City Quartet on strings. It's one of those Candlelight nights where they take a composer's biggest film scores and strip them down for a string quartet, all lit by thousands of candles. The set pulls from Zimmer's most recognizable work — Inception, Interstellar, The Lion King, Gladiator, and The Dark Knight — and it's a tribute experience, not associated with or endorsed by Zimmer himself.
The venue is as much a part of the evening as the music. The Sanctuary is a historic Kansas City temple completed in 1950, a 1,262-capacity room known for its architecture, including a six-story bell tower, historic pipe organs, and vibrant stained glass like the famous 'Love Window'. It's a space that usually feels like a landmark, and here it serves as the backdrop for the music.
