Black Country, New Road play The Granada on Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, with advance tickets at $30.
Black Country, New Road are playing The Granada on Saturday, October 17, their only Kansas City date this fall. It's a standalone show, with the band as the sole feature of the night.
If you've been following them, you know they've gone through a few distinct phases. Their early work was built on a jagged, post-punk energy—sharp guitars, spoken-word vocals, and a tendency to build songs into chaotic, sprawling peaks. The later material shifted toward something more open and melodic, trading the tension for arrangements that lean into jazz and chamber pop, with more room for the vocals to breathe. A single set usually pulls from both, so you'll hear the older, more restless songs alongside the newer, more expansive ones.
They're a band that doesn't do things in a straight line, and that's usually the draw. The songs often start in one place and end somewhere completely different, and they're not afraid to let a track run long if it needs the space. Seeing them live is the best way to hear how those different eras sit together in one room.
