First gallery takeover in a new series behind the scenes of Kansas City's art community, featuring a guided tour and self-guided exploration of the Belger Arts exhibition.
Gen Listen is taking over Belger Crane Yard Studios on Thursday, October 22, for Art After Hours, the first event in a new series of gallery takeovers. It's the inaugural outing for Gen Listen, a KCUR public media initiative that pairs public media fans with art lovers and takes them behind the scenes of Kansas City's art community. The night is built around two parts: an open hour for mingling and a guided tour that follows.
The evening starts at 5:30 PM with snacks and self-guided exploration, so you can wander through the studios and settle in before the main event. From 6 to 7 PM, the guided presentation takes over. You'll hear the story behind Belger Arts and its place in the city's creative scene, and get an insider's look at the current exhibition. Leading the way is Consuelo Cruz, Belger's vice president of marketing and community engagement, who'll be on hand to walk you through the work and answer questions as you go.

It's a good way to see the studios if you've never been inside, and the guided part gives you a bit more context than you'd get on your own. The whole thing is in the Crane Yard Studios at 2011 Tracy Ave. in Kansas City, MO. Tickets are $5 per person, and all the proceeds go to support Gen Listen's journalism. Doors open at 5:30 PM, with the guided tour running from 6 to 7 PM.
