Screening of the film 'Amadeus' with a special introduction by Dr. John Tibbetts, presented in dialogue with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City's production of 'Le Nozze di Figaro'.
Screenland Armour is bringing Amadeus back to the big screen on Sunday, November 1, at 3:30 PM. It's a screening of the Milos Forman film, and it comes with a special introduction by film scholar and Lyric Opera patron Dr. John Tibbetts, so you'll get some context before the movie starts.
If you've never seen it, Amadeus is the one that won eight Academy Awards. It follows the young Viennese composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose hedonistic lifestyle and undeniable talent provoke the jealousy of Antonio Salieri, a disciplined and deeply religious man. Consumed by resentment, Salieri becomes obsessed with Mozart's downfall and hatches a devious scheme with dire consequences for both men. It's a story about genius and the bitterness that comes from being just a little too far behind it.
The screening is presented in dialogue with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City's fall 2026 production of Mozart's opera Le Nozze di Figaro. If you're planning to catch the opera, this is a good way to spend an afternoon beforehand and get into the Mozart headspace. The two together give you a look at the man and the music from two different angles—the fictionalized life on screen and the actual work on stage.
