A 50th anniversary screening of the play Alice, Sweet, Alice at the Screenland Armour Theatre.
Screenland Armour Theatre is bringing Alice, Sweet, Alice back to the big screen on Thursday, October 15, for its 50th anniversary. It's a single screening, and it starts at 6:30 PM.
If you're not familiar with the story, it follows Alice, a withdrawn 12-year-old who lives with her mother and her younger sister, Karen. Karen gets most of the attention in the house, which leaves Alice on the sidelines. When Karen is found brutally murdered in a church, suspicions turn toward Alice, and the whole thing boils down to one question: could a 12-year-old girl really be capable of something that savage?
It's a particular kind of thriller that works best in a theater, and seeing it on a big screen for the anniversary is a different experience than catching it at home. The story centers on that tension between how Alice comes across and what she might actually be capable of, and it's the kind of thing that sticks with you long after the credits roll.
