Holiday concert by the Indianapolis Opera Chorus with guest artists and an Indianapolis Youth Orchestra string quartet, followed by a Cookies & Cocoa reception.
Voices of Christmas returns to the Basile Opera Center on Sunday, December 20, with two performances: one at 2 PM and another at 5 PM. It's a holiday tradition for the Indianapolis Opera, and the center is their permanent home in the historic Meridian-Kessler neighborhood.
The Indianapolis Opera Chorus is the heart of the show. They're joined by guest artists and a quintet from the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra (bass included), and the program pulls from a few different places. You'll hear choral arrangements of holiday favorites and a classic carols sing-a-long, alongside highlights from The Messiah and Amahl and the Night Visitors. The whole thing runs about 75 minutes.
After the music, there's a 'Cookies & Cocoa' reception with complimentary hot chocolate and treats, and Santa may even make an appearance. It's the kind of thing that works well for families—the afternoon show is a good fit for younger kids, and the early evening one is easy to work around dinner.
