A storytime session for babies and toddlers aged 0-2, featuring stories, songs, rhymes and activities for children and their caregivers.
Storytime for Babies & Toddlers is on at the West Perry Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library this Thursday, October 15. It's built for children aged 0 to 2 and a caregiver, so it's a session you do together rather than one you drop your little one off for. The format mixes a story with songs, rhymes and activities, which keeps things moving and gives the kids a few different ways to engage.
If you haven't spent much time there, the West Perry Branch opened in 2021 as a 24,000-square-foot facility meant to fill a service gap in the growing Perry Township community. It's a big, modern space that serves a diverse population of immigrants on Indy's south side, and that shows up in the collections: they carry materials in Spanish and in children's Burmese. Beyond the books, the branch has a community meeting room that holds up to 203 guests, a fireplace, a marketplace, computer stations, dedicated children's and teen zones, and an outdoor patio.
One detail that's worth knowing if you're bringing a child who gets overwhelmed: the library keeps a selection of sensory items available during its programs. They're there to support participants with sensory needs, like bright light, loud noises or other stimulations, so you can grab something if the room starts to feel like a bit much. It's a small thing, but a helpful one to have on hand.
