Sensory-friendly storytime for babies and toddlers at the Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
Storytime - Toddlers is at the Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Wednesday, November 4, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. It's part of the library's broader Storytime for Babies & Toddlers program, which runs across multiple branches. This particular session is a bilingual one, featuring a Spanish-language Hora del cuento.
One thing that sets these sessions apart is the sensory-friendly approach. The library keeps a selection of sensory items on hand, available by request to both adults and children, to help minimize discomfort from bright light, loud noises, or other stimulation. If your little one gets overwhelmed easily, it's a nice detail to have in mind before you head in.
The Glendale Branch itself has a bit of a story. It was the country's first full-service library located in a major shopping mall, opening in 2000 inside Glendale Mall. In 2024, it moved to a new 24,800-square-foot building on the site of the former John Strange Elementary School. The Broad Ripple community has had library sites since 1930, with the first stand-alone library opening in 1949, so this is the latest chapter in a long local history.
