IndyCar road course race on the IMS infield circuit, opening the month of May with practice and qualifying on Friday and the race on Saturday.
The Sonsio Grand Prix returns to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15, 2027. It's an IndyCar road-course race on the IMS infield circuit, and it officially opens the Month of May, two weeks before the Indianapolis 500.
The weekend is built around the road course rather than the oval. Practice and qualifying fill Friday, and there's a full-field autograph session with a notably relaxed atmosphere. On Saturday, the race itself takes over, with INDY NXT by Firestone also racing that day. The race is part of the Indianapolis Grand Prix doubleheader, and it's run on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile IMS road courseβthe legendary Brickyard.
There's a bit of history to this particular running. The 2027 race falls in the final season for the Dallara DW12 chassis, which debuted in 2012. The current UAK-18 chassis, with its 2020 aeroscreen and 2.2 L V-6 hybrid powertrains, will be retired at the end of 2027 and replaced in 2028 by the new Dallara IR-28 chassis and a 2.4 L V-6 engine formula. So this is one of the last times you'll see this generation of cars on the road course.

Felix Rosenqvist will be defending his title, returning as the 2026 winner after moving from Meyer Shank Racing to Arrow McLaren. Practice and qualifying are Friday, May 14, and race day is Saturday, May 15, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.
