Inaugural Scandinavian Fest celebrating Denmark, Sweden and Norway with music, food, crafts and cultural displays.
Scandinavian Fest makes its debut at Lille Bønne on Saturday, November 7, bringing together the cultures and traditions of Denmark, Sweden and Norway for one afternoon. It's the first time these three are gathered under one roof here, and the venue fits the occasion: Lille Bønne is a former Danish church, so the festival is held in a space that shares the same roots it's celebrating.
Inside, the afternoon is built around the things that define the region. There's traditional music, singing and dancing, Swedish baked goods, and handcrafted Scandinavian arts and crafts on display. You'll also find cultural exhibits and a chance to meet the people and organizations that keep this heritage alive in Indiana. It's free and family-friendly, and you don't need any Scandinavian heritage or prior knowledge to get into it.
Behind the scenes, it's a joint effort. Denmark in Indiana, founded by Anita Lerche, is organizing it alongside Lille Bønne Community Living Room, with SWEA Indiana, Svea Lodge #253 of the Vasa Order of America, Circle City Lodge of the Sons of Norway, Dans Norden and Skandilocity all taking part. Lerche describes the fest as being about sharing heritage with others and creating connections.
