Bedtime stories, songs and literacy activities for young children and their caregivers, with pajamas and a favorite stuffed animal welcome.
Pajama Storytime is coming to the Lawrence Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Monday, November 30, from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM. It's a half-hour session for young children and their caregivers, built around bedtime stories, songs, and literacy activities. After the stories, there's play time for the kids to hang out and be kids, so it's more of a social hour than just a seated reading.
The name isn't just for show: children are welcome to wear their pajamas and bring along their favorite stuffed animal. If you've got a toddler or a preschooler who's already in their PJs by 6:30, this is one of those rare outings where you don't have to change them back into street clothes just to get out the door. It's designed for the little ones and the adults who look after them, with the reading and singing as the main event and the play time as the wind-down.
The Lawrence Branch itself has a bit of a story. It first opened in 1967 on North Franklin Road in a storefront that used to be the Lawrence Post Office, making it the first branch to open within an incorporated town in Marion County. A larger, permanent 13,500-square-foot facility opened in 1983 on a 3.44-acre site bought from MSD Lawrence Township. The branch was renovated in 2020, which added group study and tutoring areas, better lighting, more charging outlets, and updated interiors.
