Free concert by the Butler University Jazz Ensemble with guest vocalist Erin Benedict, part of the 'Music at Butler' series.
The Butler University Jazz Ensemble is playing at Clowes Memorial Hall on Thursday, October 22, with guest vocalist Erin Benedict. The concert is part of the Music at Butler series, and it brings Benedict back to the university as a graduate.
It's a homecoming of sorts. Benedict studied at Butler, so she's returning to the campus where she got her start, this time as the featured guest. She'll be fronting the ensemble for the evening, and the set is built around that pairing.
Clowes Memorial Hall is the anchor of the Butler Arts & Events Center, which brings together four arts venues on the university campus. It's a big room—2,123 seats—and after 53 years it's still one of the most versatile professional stages in Indiana. Over the decades, it's hosted names like Maya Angelou, Jimmy Fallon, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Itzhak Perlman, Wynton Marsalis, and Sir Elton John. The center also includes the Schrott Center for the Arts, a 475-seat facility that opened in 2013 and was built for students and the community, with acoustics and sightlines tailored for music, dance, and theater.
