Free concert by the Butler University Percussion Ensemble in the Music at Butler series at Shelton Auditorium.
The Butler University Percussion Ensemble is playing at Shelton Auditorium on Wednesday, October 21, as part of the Music at Butler series. It's a full ensemble performance, so you'll have a whole stage of percussionists going at once rather than a single soloist.
If you're not usually a percussion person, this is a good way to get into it. A percussion ensemble doesn't just stick to the drums you're thinking ofβit pulls from a huge range of instruments, from the timpani and bass drum to mallet percussion like marimbas and vibraphones. When a whole group plays together, those different sounds layer on top of each other, and you get to hear the rhythmic side of the music take center stage for once.
Shelton Auditorium is right on the Butler campus, so it's an easy trip if you're already in the neighborhood. The concert starts at 7:30 PM, and it's free, which makes it a low-stakes way to spend a Wednesday evening if you're in the mood for something a bit different from the usual concert fare. You can just show up and listen without worrying about tickets.
