One of the flattest and fastest big-city marathons in the U.S., with full, half and 5K distances through downtown Indianapolis and its historic neighbourhoods.
The Indianapolis Monumental Marathon returns to Downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, November 7, 2026. It's the city's biggest fall race, with full, half, and 5K distances all running on the same morning, so whether you're going for the full 26.2 or just a quick 5K, you're part of the same crowd.
If you're chasing a fast time, this is the one to pin. It's known as one of the flattest big-city marathons in the country, with just over 300 feet of total climbing and a mostly flat profile, aside from a few small rollers around miles 15 to 18. That makes it a premier late-season Boston qualifier—about 18.8% of the 2025 finishers qualified for Boston. It's a personal-best factory for a reason.
The course starts and finishes on Maryland Street, right beside the Indiana Convention Center, and takes you through the city center and several historic neighborhoods. You'll run through Fall Creek Place, Old Northside, Butler-Tarkington, and Broad Ripple, passing Butler University and Newfields along the way. The race gets its name from Monument Circle and the Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument, both of which you'll pass. The marathon and half-marathon runners share the opening miles before splitting, then converge again for the closing stretch, making the run-in one of the loudest and busiest in American marathoning.

The race is run by Beyond Monumental, a non-profit that started the event with just over a thousand runners and has since grown it into one of the fifteen largest marathons in the U.S. The start is at 8 AM ET, with a seven-hour time limit—the finish line closes at 3:30 PM.
