Weekly Tuesday family storytime session at the Wayne Branch Library in Indianapolis.
Family Storytime is a regular fixture at the Indianapolis Public Library Wayne Branch, and it's one of those easy, low-pressure things to keep on your radar if you've got little ones. It runs every Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM, so it's a steady part of the week rather than a one-off. The next session is Tuesday, November 10, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
If you haven't spent much time there, the Wayne Branch is at 198 South Girls School Road, in the far east side of Indianapolis. It's a place with some history behind it: it first opened in December 1969 as a storefront in a shopping center at 7341 Rockville Road, grew in 1973, and finally moved into its permanent 13,500-square-foot home in 1984—the same building it still occupies today. In 2020, it went through a $1.1 million renovation that added more seating, activity space, study rooms, and a quiet reading area. The renovation kept the building's split design, with separate wings for children and adults, which makes it a lot like its twin branch, Lawrence.
Beyond the books and the layout, there's a specific focus on accessibility here. The staff completed Dementia Aware Organisation Training, and the library remains a Dementia Aware Organisation (Level 1 Awareness Space), so it's a welcoming spot for families and caregivers alike. Lindsay Haddix runs the branch.
