The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra presents Maurice Ravel's complete Daphnis et Chloé ballet score, conducted by Jun Märkl, alongside Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto and Kenji Bunch's Time In.
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra brings Ecstasy and Elegance: Daphnis et Chloé to the Hilbert Circle Theatre on January 29 and 30, 2027. It's part of their 2026-2027 season, and the whole evening is built around Maurice Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé.
That's the big one on the bill: the complete ballet score, conducted by Jun Märkl. Ravel wrote it for the dancers of the Ballets Russes, and it's his longest and most ambitious work. The music is meant to evoke wood nymphs and sprites, and it even calls for a wind machine. It all builds toward a final Bacchanale that's hard to forget once you've heard it.
But the Ravel isn't the only thing on the program. The orchestra is also playing Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto, with pianist Ingrid Fliter on the keys. And there's a contemporary piece in the mix: Time In by composer Kenji Bunch. So you've got a full ballet score, a Beethoven concerto, and a modern work all in one night.
