Singer-songwriter Dar Williams plays live at the Indy Folk Series, an all-ages listening room in Indianapolis.
Dar Williams plays the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis on Saturday, Nov. 21, as part of the Indy Folk Series. She's an acclaimed singer-songwriter with more than a dozen albums behind her, known for literate storytelling and acoustic melodies that move from social commentary and political action to the intimacy of personal relationships. She's also written a book, What I Found in a Thousand Towns, which looks at urban planning and the way distinct communities foster grassroots resources and local culture. She's described her own evolution as an artist by saying that, with age, she feels more comfortable holding many different threads to create more complicated patterns.
The concert is presented by the Indy Folk Series, an all-ages listening room that has occupied the performance space of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis since its founding in 2001. Run entirely by volunteers, the series books acoustic music across a wide range of genres—Americana, Roots, Bluegrass, Celtic, Swing, and Jazz—and is a member of Folk Alliance International. The church is at 615 W. 43rd St., near Butler University.
