Women's college basketball game between the Butler University Bulldogs and the Franklin College Grizzlies at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Butler University Bulldogs Women's Basketball take on the Franklin College Grizzlies at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 PM. It's a home game for Butler, and if you're not already familiar with the place, Hinkle is one of those venues that carries its own weight. It opened in 1928 as Butler Fieldhouse, and for a long time it was the largest basketball arena in the United States. Around here, it's known as 'Indiana's Basketball Cathedral,' and it served as the setting for the fictional championship game in the 1986 movie Hoosiers.
The Bulldogs have a long history on these courts. The women's program played its first season in 1975 and moved up to Division I ahead of the 1986-1987 season. For over two decades, they were members of the Horizon League, where they won two regular-season conference championships in 1993 and 1998, and a conference tournament title that earned them an NCAA March Madness berth in 1996. They shifted to the Atlantic 10 Conference for the 2012-13 season and entered the Big East Conference in 2013. They play in blue and white and name Xavier as their rival.
