Choral concert by the Indianapolis Men's Chorus and its new chamber ensemble Crossroad, with music by Indiana artists, for America's 250th anniversary.
The Indianapolis Men's Chorus brings American Voices: Indiana Stories to the Indiana Historical Society on Thursday, October 29, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The show is one of the first public outings for Crossroad, the chorus's new chamber ensemble, which takes its name from a place where people, ideas, and stories meet.
As America's 250th anniversary celebrations continue throughout 2026, the chorus turns the spotlight toward home. The program looks at the Hoosiers whose creativity, resilience, service, and innovation have helped shape the nation, told through choral music, storytelling, and historical reflection. The music comes from Indiana artists across generations and genres, including Michael Jackson, the Four Freshmen, Sandi Patty, Axl Rose, Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, and Straight No Chaser. The performance includes choreography and live instruments.
Joseph Perkins Jr. curated and directed the show, with historical research and interpretation by Dr. Nicholas Johnson, an associate professor of musicology at Butler University. This is the chorus's 37th season, and its first based at Butler University as part of the Butler Arts Collaborative. The production was made possible by an Indiana Arts Commission America250 Grant and an Indiana Humanities mini-grant.
