A community rehearsal and performance session where the public can play alongside the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, led by the orchestra's Assistant Conductor.
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is opening up the Hilbert Circle Theatre stage on Tuesday, October 27, for another Classical Jam. It's a free event, and it's not a concert in the usual senseโit's an invitation to get on stage and play alongside the orchestra.
Here's how it works: you show up with your instrument and join a rehearsal led by the ISO's Assistant Conductor. You'll spend the first part of the session working through a piece with the full orchestra around you. Then there's a rehearsal break that doubles as a reception, where you can hang out and meet the other musicians before everyone heads back to the stage for a casual performance of the piece you just rehearsed. It's less about a polished recital and more about the process of putting a piece together in one go.
There's no audition required to join in, so you don't have to worry about proving yourself before you get a chair. Orchestral parts are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and participation is limited to the available space, so if you're planning to play, it's worth getting there early. If you'd rather just watch the whole thing unfold from the house, that works too.
